If I had to mention the greatest players in golf history, no list would be complete without mention of Bobby Jones, arguably the greatest player of golf to compete at national and international level.
The record, Jones is still the only player to have won golf elusive Grand Slam, how to win all four major championships in the same year. Jones represented the United Kingdom States in the Walker Cup five times and won nine of ten games. She also won two tournaments other sanctions against professionals: the 1927 Open and 1930 Southern Open of the Southeast.
Like most other great players, Jones began as a child prodigy who, at the tender age of six years, won the tournament in their first children. At age 14, reached the third round of the U.S. Championship Amateur. He burst onto the stage national in 1923 when he won his first U.S. Open. From 1923 to 1930, won 13 major golf championships of the 20 who joined. He is second only to Jack Nicklaus (20 wins) in the list of major championships achieved. Jones is also the first player to win twice, which is both the U.S. Open and the British Open in the same year (1926).
Beyond the golf course, Jones also was an imposing figure and an exemplary athlete out of it, known as a class act and a paragon of sportsmanship and fair play. For these reasons, the United States Golf Association named the sports award as the Bob Jones Award.
During the Roaring Twenties crazy sport, Jones was one of five giant sporting icons practically worshiped the public in time. The others were Babe baseball Ruth, Jack Dempsey boxing, football, Red Grange, Bill Tilden and tennis player.
Although Jones retired from golf at the relatively young age of 28, its continued success in his private life. He received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University Harvard, where he was a member of the Owl Club. After only one year in law school at Emory University, passed the bar exam and spent the rest of his operating life of Atlanta a successful practice law.

The Greatest Game Ever Played
$5.18 You wouldn't think a movie that uses the game of golf as a metaphor for class struggle could be so entertaining. The Greatest Game Ever Played stars the charming Shia LaBeouf (Holes) as Francis Ouimet, a golfer who, in 1913, rose from caddy to U.S. Open champion at the age of 20--despite the resistance of the powers that be, who thought it unseemly for a lower-class plebian to play the sport of ge... |
