Lies Idea

To learn how to tell when someone is lying, it helps to look first to the three basic types of lies. These are lies of omission, commission, and beautification. What follows is a brief description or definition of each, and some ways to detect each type of lies.

Lying by omission

A lie by omission is when a person does not include the relevant facts that the hearer intends to include in a response. For example, a woman tells her boyfriend, "I thought it was going to a show, not the bar." He says, "I went to the fair. Here are the ticket stubs, but leaves aside the fact that he went to the bar after the show.

The easiest way to capture this kind of lying is to make the most relevant questions directly. In the example above, she might ask, "Are you going to the bar all night?" Many people are willing to avoid the truth, but are not willing to lie openly, at least not in all cases. Force them to make a choice and can only tell the truth.

Lying by Beautification

Lying or exaggerating for adornment means change the details. For example, a woman says "I spent eight hours working on this project," when he was not working for most of the time. Includes exaggerate the role of one of something, like when a guy says, "Andy and I have this little big business", when in fact it only one employee.

If you suspect this kind of lying, the first thing to do is that specific. Using the examples above, you may ask, "What was exactly what they do for those eight hours? "or, in the second," Do you actually own the business? "Of course you can Go to others or receive informaton others to verify or contradict what was said.

Lying by the Commission

A lie by the commission is totally false assertion. For example, a child says, "did not break the car window," but he did. It can also involve the transfer of the blame on others, "Andy must have broken." You can also include taking undue credit, as when a man says, "Do you like my idea?" about an idea that was not his.

By its nature, the lie of this type is more difficult to detect, because the speaker is obviously willing to lie. Even can be good at telling lies, depending on the amount of practice he has had. There are many "indicators" to observe, however, and other ways of saying when someone is lying, including dozens of traps that can catch the lie of this kind.

Some of the classic indicators of lying have to do with eyes. "Shifty eyes, or look away from speaker is believed to mean he is lying. Some will tell you that these are myths that have been debunked by science. Neither the eye movement, or avoiding eye contact indicates that what you are saying is more likely to be a lie, the research shows. However, research is flawed. It is based on laboratory settings in which people are instructed to lie, and seek universal indicators, instead of specific for the individual.

Aldert Vrij of the University of Portsmouth in England, tried to correct this deficiency in the research by looking at the real life videos of interrogations police. His idea on how to tell when someone is lying should concentrate on cases where the true facts were later determined. It was found had not sufficiently reliable evidence of whether a person is lying, but that these are individual, not universal.

For example, a woman can always remove gaze when lying, while another might have greater eye contact when lying. Most of the research was not proof of these factors individual, so the results suggest that the lie detector was not feasible. But we can take into account individual habits and patterns of behavior.

Use what you know or can determine about the individual. This is what normally avoid eye contact? Have you seen him do this before, when he was lying? Of course, avoiding contact with eyes or move their eyes could be a general sign of guilt, so be careful before assuming that means a dishonest response to a particular question. The person can only feel guilty about something related. In other words, to know if someone is lying, start by learning a little about the person.
