Pitching Wedge

Most beginner golfers and even professionals loose strokes playing their short game. Unfortunately, many golfers find their ball in the grass area surrounding the green or a sand trap, then faced the difficult shot to throw the ball on the green and get close to the pin and not exceeding green.

When the collar or sand, the player faces a difficult choice to determine the conditions and choose the right club for the shot. Throwing in the green can be done with any club from timber 3 to a pitching wedge to 60 degrees. Often novice golfers elect seven iron, regardless of conditions, find it difficult to throw the ball and not get very close to the pin. A pitching wedge should be chosen based on the distance of the ball must travel to the poles, state of the grass or sand and wind can be a factor. Much of this knowledge comes from trial and error, as well as regular practice. As a general rule, there are 4 basic types of wedges to choose.

The pitching wedge typically has 45-49 degrees of loft and is used by more shots. Men generally reach the 110-yard and women about 90 yards. It is most often affected in the grass, and has minimal bounce around 2-5 degrees.

The gap wedge is typically 49-54 degrees of loft and is used for shots of about 100 meters for men, and about 95 meters for women. The rebound is typically 5.12 degrees, get a little more loft then the ball pitching wedge. You must choose a loft that divides the "gap" evenly between their pitching and sand wedges. For example, if you have a grade 48-PW and a 56-degree SW, buy a gap wedge is 52 degrees. This club is also known as "double" or "attack" wedge.

The sand wedge typically has 54-57 degrees of loft and is used for shots of about 90 meters maximum for men, or about 80 meters for the women. It also has the most exclusive club head, with plenty of bounce are 10-16 degrees and another feature called heel toe camber. The camber toe foot heel is what gives the sand wedge an oval shape at the bottom of the face. Finally, sand wedges have more sole width (the distance between leaders and trailing edge). All these features are designed to reduce the risk of digging deep into the sand. On the occasion of sand wedges can be used from the grass, if circumstances permit.

The lob wedge typically has 57 or more degrees of loft and is used for shots of about 65 meters maximum for men, and 60 meters for women. These clubs also refers to "finesse" wedges, and are for "contact shot" around the green they need to get into the air, land quickly and softly. The rebound is minimal grades 0-10, because usually there is very little room under the ball, and a small error can make the club bounce off the ground causing a bad shot. It has less sole width and a sharp tip. One reason that many players like this club is because it allows a full, unrestricted swing to cover a short distance, instead of having to shorten his swing. The ball flies short and high.

The practice and choosing the right wedge to improve your short game, allow you to hit more greens in regulation, and probably result in more pars. Just remember the short game is usually what make or break your game so you want to have the right equipment for the job.
