Power Play

You know how you feel frustrated when you are in one-sided conversation, you have something important to say and just can not seem to happen.

In a conversation power play, it is assumed that if someone can successfully avoid answering you, he or she earns. It is supposed to double its tent and silently robs them-or the modern equivalent, just shut up and listen and act as if the most powerful person in control.

If you stay calm, you agree and she wins.

But … You need not be a loser. Instead of just fantasizing renounce violence or disgust, follow these steps.

1. Repeat. Yes, the first step is so simple, just repeat the words that were ignored before.

If you do not get an answer …

2. Answer what they have said, briefly. Immediately after, he says, "And I just said …" and repeats itself again.

If still no response and continues with its original terms …

3. Feedback what I said using these words: "I understand that you (like, I think, the intention) to (repeat the point). I do not understand is how that relates to …." Now repeat your original point again.

Still no response?

4. To pressure back to comment on the conversation, "I've said 3 times, and you are acting as if he heard me at all."

Now, depending your goal, you have more options. There are two possibilities.

5a. If your goal is to achieve cooperation, saying this. I need your point of view (or the response to what I said), to help achieve aa (a common goal). "

or

5b. If you want to calm the situation and it would save face as the escalating power struggle, you can take the blame for the awkward conversation. "Sorry, I must have communicated clearly about …."

Often a power play is stopped in step one or two. You can go to step 5 A or B, at any time, in order to focus the conversation.
