CHANCELLOR Alistair Darling has increased the national debt (to  £ 700 + million to prevent the country from slipping further into recession long and deep. In his pre-budget report (Mon 24 Nov 08), known as the most important in a generation, Mr. Darling, gave some reasons and brief details of the action with the hope to maintain employment and inject cash into the economy of the United Kingdom.
One tactic was reduced by 2.5% Darling VAT on 1 December to on 1 January 2010 to encourage consumer spending, at an estimated cost to the Government of the United Kingdom of  £ 12.5bn. It focused on a capital spending program in large construction () operation to replace the country's infrastructure (roads?).
There was a modest move in the time direction positive for financial markets – the FTSE 100 index rose 80 points (for 4130). However, the bomb was the UK Chancellor of the debt to GDP will increase from 41% to a high of 57% in 2013.
Darling said it was essential to "act now" and was willing to do "whatever it takes".
He may be right.
But … "What price to pay for this movement SMEs in 10 or 20 years?"
Darling was reported as saying he wanted "fair and responsible action to support the business, while putting the public finances in the right direction for the future." petty and medium enterprises (SMEs) represent 99% of all UK businesses.
